CONTEST FINALIST

Amit Sharma

from Vancouver, BC

What motivated you to participate in the competition?

I believe that climate change is a very important topic and that we can’t ever stop working towards improving it. Being able to showcase photos of the wonders of nature, and what could be lost if we don’t act fast, is the least I could do.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DID YOU USE TO TAKE THIS PHOTO?

I used a Sony A9 with a 70mm macro lens.

Why did you choose this photo?

Bees are vital for the preservation of ecological balance and biodiversity in nature. They provide one of the most recognizable ecosystem services – pollination – which is key in food production.

What does climate action look like in your community?

Vancouver prides itself on being a green community. Although there are many cars in the city, more emphasis is put on the use of public transportation and cycling.  There are in fact a number of new bike lanes being built throughout the city.

What message would you like to give world leaders ahead of the COP26 Climate Conference this year?

It’s easy to continue with the status quo and live with the way things currently are but we can see that this is having an adverse and lasting impact on the earth. We need to do everything we can now to have the world be a lush and vibrant planet for the future generations.
