Tell us about yourself
Since retiring to Lethbridge, Alberta, after a 31-year career with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), I’m now a writer and photographer. My images have appeared in numerous books, magazines and newspapers, including Time Magazine, Newsweek, The New York Times and The Guardian. I’m currently a photographer for National Geographic’s Crown of the Continent, the Blackfoot Canadian Cultural Society, Panos Pictures and Eye Ubiquitous. I’m also a Life Member of the Royal Photographic Society and a dual national of the United Kingdom and Canada. I’m also the Coordinator of the Canada Chapter of the WFP Alumni Network.

What motivated you to participate in this competition?
I’m passionate about the need to switch to renewable energy.
Why did you choose this photo?
Because it suggests that mixed farming, the mainstay of southern Alberta’s economy, can be sustained by renewable energy.
